Today in class we reviewed for our test on Wednesday. We went through all the slides again. Mr. Schick explained the information that we will need to know for the test. The test will probably be hard like it always is but that just means I need to study. Hopefully I will do good!

Today in class we watched the last two presentation. Both of them were very good. We then talked about our test coming up and our exam. Our test was supposed to be tomorrow but we need time to go over it. So now it is scheduled for Wednesday. Tomorrow is our only day to review because Monday were are off and Tuesday we don't have class. Mr. Schick then told us that we will write the essays for our exam on Thursday.

Today in class people shared there projects. The projects are pretty good. I liked going outside and seeing Jack and Colin's project. My favorite part was the Roman cake. The cake was really good and there project was interesting. Reese, Nathan, and James project was funny.

  • Roman Forum:
    • one of the most visited sites in the world today
    • political, administrative, religious centre of ancient rome
    • the roman forum shows remains from several centuries, due to roman practice of building over earlier ruins
    • there were actually many forums in ancient rome however the inclusion of the senate house to the site made roman forum the most  important of them all.

Today in class we started taking notes. Then he phone rang and said that Mr. Schick had a guest. He left the room and 5 minutes later he came back. He put a sweatshirt on and started rapping. He changed the lyrics of a song to information about Rome. I enjoyed him rapping. It was funny and amusing.

Today in class we took notes on Rome. We talked about the two brothers Remus and Romulus. One of the brothers killed the other brother. Greeks, Etruscans, and Latins were settles on the peninsula. The Greeks had some colonies along the Tiber River.  Two Babies were found in a river and the "she wolf" saved them and nursed them. The two brothers Remus and Romulus.

Today in class Mr. Schick told us that have project coming up. He said we can do almost anything we wanted, but it had to be about Rome.  He told us that we could do a powerpoint or a paper, but we wouldn't get a A or a B. Megan and I are thinking about doing a tri-fold poster board, but are not sure yet. Im kinda happy we have this project because it will raise my grade.

Today in class we watched a video. The video was very odd and confusing. It was about people who were chained in caves. All of the men were used to being in a cave there whole life, so when they were released they were so confused. At the end of class we talked about this video. Everyone agreed that it was odd. Today was an easy day in Western Civ.

Today in class we talked about our one thousand word essay. Mr. Schick told us that there were run ons, spelling errors, and that we did not proof read our paper. He used to be an English teacher, but he likes being a social studies teacher better. Megan,Gabi, and I got a 91% on this paper.

Today in class we went over the answers to the test. We went around the classroom and everyone answered a question. Mr. Schick was getting irritated because some people were laughing and taking while going over the test. We then got back our 1000 word paper. My group did very well, we got a 91% on it.

He was born in 384 B.C and died 322 B.C. Aristotle was a philosopher and a scientists born in the city of Stagira. Both of his parents died when he was very young. Proxenus of Atarneus was married to Aristotle's older sister and he became Aristotles guardian. Proxenus made Aristotle go to Athens to get a higher education. He wrote many books about animals, politics,and logic. He tutored Alexander the Great in politics and math. Not everything he said was always true. He thought that a goat could be male or female depending on wind. People considered him as the first scientist.

    Olympia is where the Olympic games began. Thats why it was named Olympia. It was build in honor of Zeus. This was a sanctuary building that was in western Peloponnisos. It contained treasures, such as monuments and statues.

One of the most important ancient ruins in the world. It towers over Athens.It was

Today in class we got our test back. I got an 81 on the test. We had a two hour delay on Wednesday bell schedule so class was only 30 minutes. We waited for a couple people to do the pyramid challenge. Mr. Schick told us that he's 99.9 percent sure that we will be off tomorrow and most likely be off friday too. He also told us that he was the one who brought up cyber day to John Carroll. He contacted someone in Ohio who's school had cyber day. He asked him questions about it and then talked to people from our school about it.

  • The worlds greatest civilization are all located on rivers
  • The Nile played a big part of Egypt's civilization
  • The Indus River played a big part of India's civilization
  • Mesopotamia started on the Tigris and Euphrates 
  • Huang He River played a big part of China's civilization.
1. Greece's location is significant because it is located close to the river so people can drink fresh water and use the water for bathing.
2. Greece has some islands but they also have many mountains.
3. Greece is surrounded by Bulgaria, Turkey, The Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
4.The Ionian Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and the Aegean Sea surround Greece.
5.Crete is the largest Island south of Greece.
6. Sparta is close to the Mediterranean Sea and Athens is closer to the Aegean Sea. They are still close to each other.

Today in class we build a pyramid online. We gad to answer questions until the end and a pyramid was finally built. I feel like this pyramid challenge had to do with luck. My partner was Eman and we were 5th to finish. This pyramid challenge was hard, but I liked doing it. Hopefully we will do more stuff like this in class.

Today in class we watched a couple videos. The first video was about mummification. The ancient Egyptian developed mummification and preserved the body for afterlife. All organs were removed. Body was covered with salt for about 40 days. Oils were rubbed on the body. The mummy was placed on a wooden board. A pouch was placed on the test. A cloth was wrapped around the mummy. On to the next video. Civilization lasted from 3000 B.C to 332 B.C. It was easy to plant seeds near the Nile. Old Kingdom period lasted from  2649- 2152. Middle Kingdom lasted from 2040 - 1640 and New Kingdom from 1550 - 1070 B.C. The next video was about Harun Al Ashid and his son. He positioned himself at the bottom of  the Pyramid of Kias. He came with many tools to find the pharaohs treasures.

1. Medicine- This invention was very important because it saved people's lives.


2. Building Ships- this was a first form of transportation. People wouldn't have to walk anymore.


3. Calendar- They invented the calendar to know when the Nile was going to flood.


4. Eye Makeup- Both men and woman wore eye makeup. They wore kit to protect their eyes from the sun like sunglasses.

5. Pyramids- They were structures that Pharaohs started building. Sometimes they were carved into peoples faces.

Today in class we continued watching guns,germs, and steel. We talked about the 14 animals that are domesticated.  Most of the animals were from the middle east, but one of the animals was from South America. The best kind of animals are the ones that reproduce at young ages such as 1 or 2. We also talked about zebras and how they could not be domesticated animals because as soon as they would hear a noise, they would freak out.

Second Day

Today was our second day of Western Civ. We had a 2 hour delay so class was cut short. Mr.Schick showed us a power point on "prehistory to civilization". We had to take notes on this power point and pay attention to what he was saying. He told us that we are going to have a test on this Wednesday. Hopefully the test won't be too hard.

First Day

Today was my first day of Western Civ. Mr.Schick explained that we need to blog every day that we have class to the students who didn't have him last semester. We had to make a new blog and email the link to Mr.Schick. Most of the students were not in my Human Geo class. I am glad I'm in a different section and get to meet new people. Hopefully this will be an enjoyable class.
